Our Royal Family

Somehow a month has slipped by, and I completely forgot to post our Halloween ventures for this year. It is getting much harder to put the kids in whatever adorable little getup that I come up  as they both have strong opinions about what they want to wear, and therefor what they wanted to ‘be’ this Halloween. Isaac far more than Coco of course, but she too demanded an accessory of some kind, and I cant say that I blame her.

Isaac was very specific. He wanted to be something that had a gun, sword, or light saber {yes, my parenting is impeccable}. Seeing that we haven’t allowed any toy versions of any of those things in our house, I thought I would make an exception and suggest he be a knight, with a sword – under the condition that he didn’t try to slay his little dragon. I found some vintage patterns online, and went to work. For whatever reasons both patterns were unnecessarily complicated, and took far more time than I had intended on spending on them. The good news is that they both adored their costumes and wore them for a week straight making the pain and suffering of their creation a little bit more rewarding.

David helped me by sketching the dragon that Isaac donned on his chest. When someone asked Isaac what he was for Halloween his response was ‘armor’, never a knight…

Coco dragged her tail all around the San Fernando Valley. For a wee thing that couldn’t crawl at this time last year it was a joy to see her in costume, trick or treating, clearly aware of what Halloween was all about. And of course David and I got into the spirit {note: this would never have happened B.C. {{before children}} }. I have to admit that our costumes were not made, but rather ‘assembled’, but they did the trick in a pinch and completed our perfectly royal, perfectly silly family of four.
